Semler Residence
Pilsen, Czech Republic
Architect: Heinrich Kulka, 1924
This is the only apartment in Pilsen where Loos implemented his unique Raumplan. The individual rooms vary in height, having been elevated to several different levels and interconnected by stairs to create continuously adjoined spaces. The Raumplan principle can be admired in the spacious lounge with its cladding of Finnish birch, the flooring made of rare Makassar, and the fireplace of clinkstone blocks. Several details have survived, including the dumb waiter, which was used for transporting food to the individual rooms at their various levels. Thanks to the Gallery of West Bohemia.
