Famous Bauhaus Villa in Berlin-Schlachtensee
The Lewin House was designed by the German architect Peter Behrens in 1929 in the elegant district of Berlin-Schlachtensee, close to the lake Schlachtensee. The villa was the home of a famous actor and artistic director. The property has been owned by the family ever since. In line with the ‘form follows function’ principle, the interiors feature classic pieces of German design belonging to different historical periods. The project conserves the original open-plan arrangement of the spaces, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

Architectural Highlights
The Lewin House, a late work by architect Peter Behrens, is one of the few houses that the architect consistently designed in the formal language of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity). With this house, Behrens demonstrated his ability to implement the modern formal apparatus in an impressive and almost radical manner down to the smallest detail. The Lewin House captivates with its asymmetrical, interpenetrating cubes and functional floor plan. The house is surrounded by a big garden and has many original details.
