Garden
Ferdinand Bac conceived the garden as an extension of the house, creating garden rooms (‘Fabriques’) each with its special feature: a pond, a ceramic scene, a painted fresco, an obelisk, a structure, a staircase, each illustrating a classical theme, and each linked to its neighbour. Occasional views of the old town or the surrounding mountain are carefully integrated into a voyage of discovery, that evolves with the terrain.
Flowers are comparatively rare; most of the garden is a mixture of small edifices placed in green sculpture using plants and the existing olive grove, cypresses and pines and and the oldest Carob tree in Europe. Spectacular exceptions are the lotus flowers that blossom with the Agapanthus in July. There are also masses of Banksia rose, and meadow flowers in their spring season.
